LUSAKA CENTRAL CONSTITUTIONAL COURT JUDGMENT: A VICTORY FOR JUSTICE AND A TRIUMPH OF THE PEOPLE By Sunday Chilufya Chanda The Patriotic Front joins the people of Lusaka Central and the rest of Zambia in celebrating and congratulating Minister of Finance Hon Margaret Mhango Mwanakatwe, following the judgement of the Constitutional Court upholding her election as PF Lusaka Central Member of Parliament.  We celebrate in humility. For us in the Party it is not a time to gloat, but rather for Hon Mwanakatwe to roll up her sleeves even further to work even harder for the people of Lusaka Central and continue to grow the Zambian economy under the leadership of His Excellency President Edgar Chagwa Lungu. We do not view this judgement an opportunity to “rub it in”. Democracy and associated justice is not primarily about the “victor” or the “vanquished”; it is principally about the will of the people. Consequently, the Constitutional Court Judgment is a victory for justice a...

POSITIVE OUTLOOK FOR THE ZAMBIAN ECONOMY HIGHLIGHTED BY HON. MARGARET MWANAKATWE’S ATTENDANCE OF THE 2018 ANNUAL MEETINGS OF THE INTERNATIONAL MONETARY FUND AND THE WORLD BANK GROUP IN BALI By Sunday Chilufya Chanda Minister of Finance Hon. Margaret Mwanakatwe recently returned from a successful trip where she attended the 2018 Annual Meetings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank Group (WBG), which were held in Bali, Indonesia. Mrs Mwanakatwe led a delegation from Zambia in various meetings, sessions and events of both the IMF and WBG. The successful bilateral meetings with development partners, cordial business meetings and the investor forums which Hon Mwanakatwe had in Bali are signals that Zambia’s economic reform policies and programmes are of international market standard and will continue to attract quality stakeholder interest, both locally and in the international community. The views of the Zambian Government resonate with the th...

PRESS STATEMENT FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE  MESSAGE OF CONDOLENCES ON THE DEATH OF MAMA CHIBESA KANKASA Lusaka, Zambia, 29th October 2018   Patriotic Front has received news of the of the death of Mama Chibesa Kankasa with extreme shock and profound sadness, particularly that her demise comes just a few days after the nation was celebrating  its 54th Independence day – a day whose origins and cause she significantly contributed to. She was one of the significant firebrands of Zambia’s Independence struggle. As a trail blazer for women in leadership and decisions making positions and a key feature of our nation’s development in its earlier years, her indelible legacy will forever be etched in the annals of our nation. Mama Kankasa was a Matriarch and her wise counsel and encouraging demeanour shall be missed.  She fought a good fight, ran a faithful race and now a prize from her creator awaits her. ...

THERE IS A LOT TO BE THANKFUL FOR;  BEWARE OF PEDDLERS OF CYNICISM  AND CONSTANT NEGATIVITY - IT IS A MARK OF LOW SELF ESTEEM   By Sunday Chilufya Chanda It is amazing how negativity and cynicism can dehumanise those that carry and peddle it. While the nation may be facing some challenges here and there, there are so many things to be grateful for. Take the last few days for instance, some people shunned and condemned our country’s 54th Independence celebrations claiming there was nothing to celebrate. For them Peace and Freedom is nothing to celebrate. Negativity and cynicism can be self-degrading. While they shunned their own country’s foremost national event honouring the national heroes and liberators of their nation, the same people had only a few days earlier, made a frenzied haste towards a foreign embassy; to only flit around the peripheries as that particular embassy commemorated its national day. They take the peace in their nation for ...

A LOST CAUSE: DR MUSOKOTWANE’S ATTEMPTS TO WHIP UP SOME DAMAGE CONTROL OVER HIS SINOPHOBIC CHIEF’S LOVE LETTER TO THE CHINESE By Sunday Chilufya Chanda "It is pointless and futile for him to attempt to close the barn door after the horse has bolted". Two days ago, UPND Chairman for Finance and Economics Dr Situmbeko Musokotwane dismissed reports that UPND president Hakainde Hichilema wrote a letter the Chinese government to stop funding various government projects because Zambia was facing serious debt crisis. However Dr Musokotwane who is also Liuwa Member of Parliament maintained that Mr Hichilema in his letter addressed to the Chinese Ambassador "only asked the Chinese government to tone down on its funding to the Zambian government because the country was in a serious debt crisis." Firstly, we congratulate current Liuwa Member of Parliament and Former Minister of Finance in the MMD Government, Honourable Dr Situmbeko Musokotwane on his recent appointm...

THE PEOPLE OF MANGANGO DESERVE BETTER THAN THE VIOLENCE AND ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT OF HICHILEMA AND UPND; THEY NEED PF DRIVEN INFRASTRUCTURE DEVELOPMENT By Sunday Chilufya Chanda The development of roads such as Kasempa-Kaoma, Livingstone-Kazungula, Mazabuka-Kafue, and Katunda-Lukulu-Watopa Road are of high economic significance not only because they bring development, but also because they encourage regional integration -which is a key policy of the Patriotic Front (PF) Government. That is the reason why the PF government and the majority of right thinking Zambian citizens are appalled by UPND Leader Hakainde Hichilema’s call to halt Chinese backed road construction and Infrastructure development in these areas. It appears that Mr Hichilema wants to perpetuate and feed on the distortion that fellow Zambian citizens in certain parts of the country are being neglected and discriminated against. This explains why the UPND leader wrote to the Chinese with the twis...

THE DARK DESIRES OF HICHILEMA’S ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT.  "The UPND leader's International anti-Zambia smear campaign and his love letters to the Chinese, are designed to retard developments such as the long-awaited Lukulu-Katunda-Watopa Road  as well as Mumbwa-Kasempa Road among others" By Sunday Chilufya Chanda As her Honour the Vice President of the Republic of Zambia Madam Inonge Wina highlighted in Parliament, the misinformation and distortion of facts being circulated by   those who wish ill for their country is affecting the nation from receiving support for development, because of the negative picture that these gloom and doom-sayers people are portraying to the international community. What kind of opposition “leader” writes to the Chinese Embassy in Zambia to stop all development projects in the country?  Only a retrogressive element and enemy of progress with an  anti-development  retarded agenda can be so cold-hearted as to del...

NATIONAL DAY OF  PRAYER FOSTERS NATIONAL UNITY; SATAN AND HIS AGENTS DREAD PRAYER AND UNITY  By Sunday Chilufya Chanda The nation will on Thursday 18th October commemorate the annual National Day of Prayer and Fasting, repentance and reconciliation. Zambia is a nation that has been declared to be under the Lordship of our Lord Jesus Christ.  Unity and reconciliation is the central theme of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Our Lord Jesus Christ’s Prayer for Unity In the Gospel of John, our Lord Jesus Christ offers a passionate prayer for the disciples who were with him as he walked the earth, and those who were to follow through the ages- including those in Zambia at the present moment: “I am not praying just for these followers. I am also praying for everyone else who will have faith because of what my followers will say about me.  I want all of them to be one with each other, just as I am one with you and you are one with me. I also want them to be one w...

THE LAW OF LAURA'S CHRONIC AND IMPULSIVE ITCH:  Shoot First & Ask Questions Later Nature through Physics and other sciences has well-established, observations, physical characteristic and  behavior of nature that are also known as "Laws of Nature" There are such laws of nature such as the "Law of Gravity", "Newton's third law of motion" and many more.  And then there is "The Law of Laura's Chronic and Impulsive Itch" : which calls for the shooting of government first and asking it questions later. This law has been the foundation of Ms. Laura Miti's Civil society "activism". Now, we do not dispute that Civil Society has a cardinal place in the affairs of this nation. On the contrary! However, it is a distortion of the function of Civil Society to  be gung-ho and  play the role of defacto opposition party in the manner Ms Laura Miti does. No doubt Ms Miti has the gift of the gab. But her peculiar gi...
OF AIRCRAFT AND SENSATIONAL JOURNALISM; LIES AND MALICE DON’T FLY FOR LONG-THE TRUTH WILL ALWAYS PREVAIL By Sunday Chilufya Chanda Professional integrity is the cornerstone of a journalist's credibility. The integrity of Journalism is anchored on five Core Principles namely: 1.Truth and Accuracy. 2.Independence. 3.Fairness and Impartiality 4.Humanity.  5.Accountability. Journalists cannot always guarantee 'truth', but getting the facts right is the cardinal principle of journalism anything else is sensationalism. Sensationalism has been described as: “a type of editorial bias in mass media in which events and topics in news stories and pieces are over-hyped to present biased impressions on events, which may cause a manipulation to the truth of a story.” The ultra-hype and bias in the “story” by Africa Confidential, which the Mast Newspaper and other on-line media carried, regarding the replacement of a 17-year-old presidential Challenger jet, is NOT a...
